First Cross Country Flight

Last week we made our first cross country flight in 21P and moved the plane from Mexico MO to Junction City KS for the winter. Weather was outstanding with clear skies and stable air. The only downside of the trip was the 14KT headwind but still made better than 120 kts accross the ground. We planned a southerly route around the Kansas City class bravo airspace since we are not yet ADSB-B equipped. Power settings were set at 2400 RPM and 24 inches. I found the stability of the Comanche to be exceptional compared to the Hershey bar wing Cherokees and Cessna’s i’ve flown.

The entire flight was uneventful except for a crane erected near the airport that was not NOTAM’d. But the clear VFR weather afforded sufficient clearance for a safe landing. My preferred landing technique with my 180 is to fly the final approach at 90 MPH indicated by reducing power and trimming the aircraft up. Upon touchdown I imediately retract the flaps, apply back pressure on the yoke and apply brakes. I read about this technique somewhere but can’t find the reference.
